July 24, 2019 - We are no longer under contract for land in Bowness

The feasibility study unveiled a potential environmental issue on one section of the property. Although this issue could be minor, further exploration for a full assessment requires additional financial investments that are beyond our risk tolerance threshold. After many discussions within our group and with our professional partners, we have made the tough decision to pull out of the contract and exercise our non-waiver clause.

As tough as this decision is, we are all very positive about the future of Mosaic Village. Our group has grown considerably over the past few months with the addition of lovely couples and families. We have also learned a tremendous amount during the feasibility study, and we will carry all of these learnings into our next adventure. We now have a better idea of what our community will look like and know it can be built in a sustainable way on an urban infill site.

So what are our next steps? We are wasting no time in investigating other land in Calgary, prioritizing the criteria that are important to our community: easy access to downtown, close to amenities such as schools, public transit, green space and with walkability and biking potential. Importantly, we continue to meet and enjoy each other’s company as we search for land!

July 4, 2019 - We are still in feasibility

We have been granted an extension by the seller to extend conditions, so that we can continue feasibility on this site. (Some of the items our team has been working on include environmental testing, servicing study with civil engineers, demolition quoting, city planning, financing (we were approved!), architectural design, legal work, and budgeting.) We hope to have more fulsome information to share soon. In the meantime, we hope you will plan to join us for a fun casual picnic in the park on July 13 at the Shouldice playground, or on August 25 at Bowness Park.

May 17, 2019 - We are under contract for land in Bowness!

We're making some very exciting progress on finding a home for our community and want to keep you updated! We're currently under contract for land in Bowness and are now busily working through the details of what our happy home may look like. 

Often referred to as “Beautiful Bowness”, this neighbourhood has a small town attitude with a vibrant sense of community. It is experiencing gentrification with the renovation of some of the housing and commercial properties. There is a lot to love in Bowness, from the quaint family-run businesses and eclectic mix of shops and eateries on Main Street, to the jewel of Bowness Park and the quick access to downtown and to the mountains.
 
The contracted land is on the east side of Bowness, walking distance to Main Street. It is a mere 15-minute drive to downtown or 30-minute bike ride on the paved river pathway. The neighbourhood has established schools, excellent playgrounds and river access. The land is not in the flood zone.
 
There are still a lot of unknowns about the project at this time - we don’t know what our community will look like or what the cost of a unit will be. We are sorting out a lot of these unknowns right now through a feasibility study and will have more information by end of June.
